Reso has well and truly delivered something stunning with this new album LP: Ricochet. As a listener I like many Reso tracks but not all, because each release comes something totally different and very unique it feels like a hit and miss to me I guess. As you will know I’m much more into the liquid side of things so not all of the tracks from the album are to my taste. The journey starts with this track called ‘Taiga’ which I really love…
With 12 tracks in total though there is more than enough to please both sides of the scales with whether you like the heavy stuff or the melodic pieces, truly a versatile album quite like the S.P.Y Chapter LP releases in a way. Some of the tracks almost feel over-complex in a mad and yet incredible way, one example has to be ‘What Is’ which is my favorite off the album because the layers of sound on this one are so impressive. Easily a future favorite.
Reso has created an amazing atmosphere within all these tunes, it’s like hearing the music live at an event but you never left the bedroom, it’s ticking all the right boxes. ‘Coming Back To You’ is about as much vocals as you will get from the album, which I don’t mind but perhaps one proper vocal release would of been nice. Still though you have so much diversity in this with other tracks like ‘Echo Loss’ and ‘Aqueous’ which really change the albums pace mid-way through, like an intermission from all the madness.
I like the cover art as well, it reminds me a lot of the Fred V & Grafix album, with that sense of anonymity and selflessness that a release cover can bring just helps mystify the music a bit more. I think this album will go down as an all time great eventually. If it’s not recognized now then it will be down the road just like when I discovered Adam F’s album ‘Colours’ from 1997, truly timeless 🙂
