Cylinder Head Work

Here is what has been keeping me busy this last week. It’s an 8V head from a MK4 Golf GTI my friend just purchased cheap (head gasket failure and some other problems). It’s in a pretty poor state so I’m the process of stripping this head down and giving it a good clean. It’s getting new stem seals and being skimmed as well. Below are some photos showing the task which is near completion.

Collets going in (notice the black one so you can see the difference from the old one compared to the new red ones)

The head has been skimmed and I managed to unblock those waterways (notice all 6 small holes now present).

Valves going back in (this tool is a nightmare).

Okay pretty much there, just the cam to go on now…..

Just waiting on the cam rotation sensor to arrive then I can refit the cam.
